MERCURY CARDS

ABOUT US
Mercury Cards began in 1999 to inspire letter-writing with pen and paper. The artist's influences
range from the European surrealist movement to the collage methods of Schwitters to the
pop art style of Rauschenberg. The postcard format was originally inspired by the elegant
and haunting missives of Bantock's Griffin and Sabine. In these postcards an uncommon
form of beauty is sought through juxtaposition of disparate expressive elements in themes
ranging from the mythical to the scientific.

In Memoriam

Joseph Colby Heim, 1988-2006
With the sun on your back,
a blue sky in your eyes
and adventure in your will,
as vibrant as the midsummer’s light,
you are stronger than a river’s might.
Memories run deeper than canyons—
worn, unyielding and true;
they prevail and hold you near
in our spirits as we are missing you.
Still, we are listening
for the beating of your heart in a river’s flow,
for the sound of your laugh from afar,
for the hum of your soul in time with a banjo,
for the sails on the boat to catch your sigh.
May the waters rise to meet you.
May your song carry on in our hearts.
May the wind forever be behind you,
and may heaven be full of rivers—
fast, beautiful, eternal
and echoing with your laughter.
